- All the single flute tools have recessed shanks to allow deeper cutting
- Deep grooving, rebating and mortising
- Useful for template work when thickness of template restricts depth
- Extra care must be taken to avoid breakage
- Take more passes than usual, and only cut up to half the diameter of the cutter in one pass
- This applies to cutters under 3/8 inch diameter
